Is Bismillah Part Of Sura Fatiha?

[jwplayer 7mgPzFyE]

bismaEvery Muslim in Islam believes in the sanctity of the Holy Qur’an. They also believed in its completeness. Muslims believe that the Qur’an was revealed by Allah (swt) to His Noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) without ambiguity. The prophet received it in it pristine form and explained every bit of the Qur’an to his followers and companions.

However, after the demise of the Noble Prophet (pbuh) of Islam, things took a different discourse. This led to different interpretation of the Qur’an. One of such is the difference in opinion as to whether Bismillah constitute part of Sura Fatiha (Qur’an Chapter 1). Some believe that it’s part of the Sura while others don’t.

Out of this difference in opinions, some recite bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim out loudly with the rest of the verses of the chapter when offering salat. Others deemed it should be recited silently. This is based on some reported traditions or narrations attributed to the Noble Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Different schools of thought have had different opinions on this issue. Adherents of these schools of thought follow strictly what has been taught by their madhab (school of thought). This has led us to crossroads that need to be examined.

Sheihu Salawatia Imam Rashid in his 2016 Ramadan tafsir series, made some commentary regarding bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim. His analysis is in reference to a prophetic narration where it is said that, the Sura Fatiha (Qur’an Chapter 1) is the summary of the Qur’an. This is where it is usually referred to as “Mother of the Qur’an.” Also, the summary of Sura Fatiha is bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim according to the narrative.

If such is the case, it is unanimously agreed that any salat (prayer) offered without the recitation of Sura Fatiha is incomplete. Then why will one omit the most important and first verse of that chapter or by either simply reciting it silently. Will it make sense to recite some verses out loudly and others silently in prayers?
